Birmingham Airport Selects 20/20

Gentrack, a leading provider of airport management solutions, announced today the signing of a contract with Birmingham Airport, one of the UK’s busiest airports, to deploy its 20/20 Airport Management System.

Birmingham Airport selected 20/20’s comprehensive suite of integrated solutions through a competitive tendering process and began the implementation of the system in June 2012. The project includes the implementation of 20/20’s Airport Operational Database (AODB), Flight Information Display (FIDS), Resource Management (RMS) and Airport Data Warehouse, Reporting/Dashboard systems as well as its flagship Aeronautical billing solution and an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB). The entire system is designed to streamline the airport’s operations according to 20/20 General Manager Nigel Farley.

“Our expertise in delivering comprehensive fully integrated airport management solutions matches Birmingham Airport’s innovative vision. We have a proven history of enhancing the operational efficiency of the airports we work with around the world so we’re excited to begin working with Birmingham Airport across a number of significant areas of their business.”

Wayne Smith, Birmingham Airport’s Head of Information Services stated, “Birmingham Airport is keen to take advantage of the latest technology to improve operational effectiveness.  Airport 20/20’s product allows us to achieve our aims and we are looking forward to using the product as a platform for further exciting developments”.

Continuous enhancements to the product mean that the 20/20 RMS now has the capacity to manage a variety of mobile assets including airport transport such as buses, in addition to gates, stands, check-in desks and baggage belts. Farley continued, “Birmingham Airport will be the first to take advantage of our new mobile asset planning and real-time operation solution. We engineered the system to optimise the use of the buses available at the airport, by coordinating and facilitating the optimal way of transferring passengers to various airport destinations.”

20/20 will also help Birmingham Airport achieve the standards required to join Europe’s new Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) initiative. Formed to improve the overall efficiency of operations at European airports, A-CDM is a multi-airport partnership which sees members sharing information (airport operators, handling agents, Air Traffic Control (ATC) and airline carriers) to increase the accuracy of target departure times which can be used to improve route and sector planning across the European ATC network.  A-CDM will further support Birmingham Airport’s enhanced airport utilisation and growth strategy.

Farley concluded, “It’s a competitive marketplace, so we are thrilled to be awarded the contract at Birmingham Airport. We are excited by their forward thinking and particularly pleased to add Birmingham to the list of UK airports using 20/20 which already includes Newcastle International Airport who first started using solutions from 20/20 in 1979.  With our recent wins at Hong Kong and Brisbane International Airports we are continuing to take a leadership position as airports globally continue to adopt the latest technologies and solutions available.”

Birmingham Airport is a major international gateway airport serving passengers from all over the UK and only 70 minutes from London by train.  With almost 9 million passengers through its gates last year it is the 7th largest airport in the United Kingdom with flights to domestic and international locations across the UK, Europe, Middle East, Pakistan, North America and the Caribbean.
