Wellington lines company goes live with Gentrack Velocity

2 February 2009: The Gentrack team has successfully implemented a new network billing solution for New Zealand’s newest Lines Company, Wellington Electricity Lines Limited (WE*).

The Wellington based Network provides electricity distribution to 170,000 connections in Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt, Porirua and Wellington City, and was acquired in 2008 by CHED Services, a joint venture business owned by Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings Limited (CKI) and Hong Kong Electric Distribution Limited.

Following the purchase of the network, and a review of its business requirements, WE* selected Gentrack Velocity as the most cost effective network management solution offering strong local support to achieve a rapid software implementation. Gentrack was also able to minimise business risks throughout the project, maintaining the continuity of the WE* business through the transition period and beyond.

The Gentrack Velocity software implemented at WE* is also used at New Zealand’s largest lines company and previous owner of the Wellington network – Vector Limited. The system has been configured to meet WE*’s business model with flexibility to adapt to changing market regulations and with the business as the network is developed.

Gentrack CEO James Docking commented “We are pleased to be supporting WE* with this new business venture. This project marks the beginning of a strategic partnership with WE* and further cements Gentrack’s position as a strong global competitor in the utilities industry. I am excited about the opportunity to prove once again the value of Gentrack Velocity as a highly configurable network management and business process solution, backed by a local and highly experienced team committed to delivering a high quality, high spec product within a reasonably short space of time.”

The implementation project has culminated with the migration of all network data from the Vector database to the new Gentrack Velocity system at WE*.
