Barwon Water Selects Gentrack Velocity Utility Billing and CRM

Gentrack, a leading provider of specialist software for water utilities, has been selected to deploy its specialist water billing and CRM software to Barwon Water, Victoria’s largest regional urban water corporation.

An extensive tender process conducted by Barwon Water saw Gentrack compete against a number of major local and international software vendors. Providing a stronger business proposition than its competitors, Gentrack was awarded the contract to deploy its Velocity software to Barwon Water. This latest contract win follows a strong year in 2011 for the Gentrack business, its biggest in over 20 years according to Gentrack CEO James Docking.

“It’s an exciting time for the Gentrack business, especially with the current spotlight on large IT projects in Australia. We’ve invested significantly in our project delivery model and continued R&D of our leading utility billing and customer information products. The results are evident with some great projects at Onstream, Unitywater, Horizon Power and Aurora Energy. 2011 was an exceptional year and 2012 is shaping up to be even bigger and better.”

Established in 1908, Barwon Water delivers water, recycled water, and sewerage services to over 280,000 customers across 8000 square kilometres of Victoria Australia including Geelong, Colac and Lorne. The numbers of serviced customers can more than double during the year as holiday makers move into Barwon Water’s catchment region.

“Our experience from projects of similar size in Australia has enabled us to establish a set of proven tools designed to reduce project risk and enable our teams to deliver against regular milestones. We’re adopting an iterative delivery approach at Barwon Water using Gentrack’s ADVANCE methodology. This ensures that our respective project leaders and subject matter experts are engaged throughout the entire project, configuring the software where required to meet Barwon Water’s business requirements.”

Gentrack recently completed deployment of its water billing and CRM platform to Onstream in Tasmania where water market reforms have been implemented. Providing a modern water billing and CRM platform, Gentrack software is now used to bill water, trade waste and sewerage across five States of Australia including Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania, Australia Capital Territory and Northern Territory.

“Water is quickly becoming a valuable and critical commodity,” concluded Docking, “and water utilities need specialist, flexible systems to support new technologies and customer engagement strategies. Our goal is to provide the billing, customer information and process management tools that will enable Barwon Water to meet its business aspirations. In conjunction with our expertise in water markets, Barwon Water can be assured of our long-term commitment to the partnership and delivery of a powerful water billing and CRM platform that offers the flexibility and financial returns to support its business into the future.”
