Powershop wins Innovation Award sponsored by Gentrack

13 September 2010: The world’s first online energy store, Powershop, has been presented with an Innovation Award at New Zealand’s inaugural Energy Excellence Awards.

Powershop launched its innovative retail service model into the New Zealand energy market in early 2009, offering a new way for customers to manage their electricity consumption. The pioneering approach of the company was recognised as the strongest overall demonstration of innovation in the New Zealand energy sector for 2010, an award collected by Powershop CEO Ari Sargent.

Over 550 energy executives and government representatives gathered in Wellington for this inaugural event. Powershop was joined by The Lines Company, Mighty River Power and Trustpower – all picking up awards for best performance in their respective market sectors. Former Trustpower CEO Keith Tempest also picked up an award for his contribution to New Zealand’s energy sector.

“Gentrack was pleased to support this fantastic event” said James Docking, Gentack CEO. “It’s pleasing to see Keith Tempest get the recognition for his services and dedication to the industry. We need to recognise more of these contributions and the outstanding achievements of energy utilities throughout New Zealand.”
